NY JAY — Jay Climate Smart Community Task Force prioritizes community outreach on state packaging bill. At its February 19 meeting, the task force discussed the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act and heard guest Melinda Beuf's appeal for municipal support; members favored it but Knut Sauer cautioned that Town Board endorsement would require advance outreach and ideally unanimous or 4-1 support, while Supervisor Matt Stanley expressed concern. The task force decided to pursue community outreach first.
The group also received updates on six sustainability initiatives including complete solar panels at the highway garage, EV chargers progressing in Upper Jay and pending spring work in Jay, a compost pilot program contract expected by end of February, and an awarded Complete Streets Policy grant.
